Let me say this once and for all: all wordpress plugins should have a manual instruction that details how we could install such and such plugins. Currently there are 10,000 plugins available at wordpress.org. How many of them provide a manual installation guide?

Not all servers have the same setup. This is where the problem pops up. One server may have a very tight security permission especially for a vps, while other hosts, especially a shared hosting server, may be more lenient on script installation and WordPress upgrades and all that.

Today I am stuck with installing plugins for some of my wordpress blogs. Every thing had failed. I am upset. I set permissions at 777 in appropriate folders. Still it failed. I had tried many ways to successfully install a plugin, all came to naught.

For smf forum software users, a plugin always comes with a manual installation guide. This is to ensure that those who cannot automatically install a plugin could do so manually. There has to be an option. For instance, Google Sitemap Generator plugin does not have a manual installation guide. It can only be installed automatically.

That’s why I wish to happen in WordPress, a painless manual installation. It doesn’t matter whether it involves editing a php file.

WP should not accept a plugin if it does not come with a manual installation guide. This is giving a lot of wp users tremendous headache.
