The Power of SAN

As digitalized information data expand in exponential growth, demand for faster and more reliable data storage network skyrockets. Here comes SAN, or storage area network, believed to be the next-generation data storage architecture and a better alternative to NAS or network attached storage.

SAN’s power is anchored on the fact that the network is exclusively used for storing, retrieval and transporting data. It is a complete departure from the slower NAS since SAN no longer stores data on disks directly connected to servers.

Whereas NAS devices are utilized for all types of networking purposes, SAN is specifically dedicated to storing and handling data. Thus, SAN’s architecture is more focused on data management without being interrupted by other network activities such as common to NAS devices.

In the past, particularly at the turn of this century, we were wary of the explotion of data. We wondered how people would be able to face a world that is increasingly digitalized with all sorts of digital movies, videos, images, and documents keep filing up on data storage facilities across the globe. Such enormous growth of digital information that the world accumulates everyday carries a potential disaster, if storing and transporting of data are not fully optimized.

With SAN, we can live without worrying of today’s increasingly complex data storage and retrieval.
